Chief Murphy J. Paul Jr. of the Baton Rouge Police Department in Louisiana sadly reports the death of Corporal Shane Totty.
Cpl. Totty, 31, died as a result of injuries he sustained in a two vehicle crash while riding his police motor unit.
Totty was escorting a funeral motorcade when a pickup truck pulled out from an apartment complex and struck his motor unit. He was unable to avoid the collision and was thrown from the police motorcycle, landing in the roadway.
Totty sustained critical injuries in the crash. Reports indicate that witnesses to the collision were rendering CPR and emergency first aid to him when fire rescue first responders arrived at the scene of the crash. As a result, Totty was transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later during surgery.
