Chief Randy Richardson of the Newman Police Department in California sadly reports the death of Corporal Ronil Singh.
Cpl. Singh, 33, died as a result of gunshot wounds he sustained during a traffic stop. Singh called to dispatch advising that he was conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle. He reported his location and the vehicle description. A few minutes later, he again called dispatch, reporting that shots were fired.
Other responding officers found Singh at the scene of the traffic stop, alive and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Singh was a native of Fiji. His law enforcement career spanned 12 years, with the last seven being served at the Newman Police Department. He had previously served with the Merced County Sheriff’s Department and the Turlock Police Department. The murdered police officer leaves behind a wife and young son.
