The Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico sadly reports the death of Agent Joel Pantojas-Fuente of the San Juan Police Department.
Agent Pantojas-Fuente, 41, died as a result of injuries he sustained in a vehicle crash.
Pantojas-Fuente was traveling home after working his midnight shift. He was in uniform and riding his department motor unit. While traveling home, he came upon a disabled vehicle that was stopped in the left lane of the freeway. He activated the emergency lights on his police motorcycle and assisted the driver in pushing the automobile off the roadway.
While the two were pushing the vehicle, another automobile struck Fuente’s motor unit and then pinned him between two vehicles, ultimately pushing him under the disabled vehicle. The impact was so severe that Pantojas-Fuente died instantly.
It is not known what charges, if any, the driver of the striking vehicle will face. The only reports of the driver’s condition was that he passed field sobriety tests.
