Is your marriage snared by guilt? Do you struggle from culpability of past transgressions? Let’s talk about it for a minute.
Do you know why we refer to auto collisions as accidents? Because they are not intentional! You need to be intentional about your relationship with your spouse. Talk to him/her outside of your house, away from the kids, physically separated from stress inducers. Take a walk; go to Starbucks, whatever it takes. If you attend church, then worship together, don’t simply sit side by side.
If you claim Christianity, I would recommend that you meditate on this verse and ask God to help you identify as a new creation in Him:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Surrender your guilt to God. Satan is winning the internal battle for peace and joy in your life. There is a saying, “Let go and let God.” It might be a cliché but there is truth in those words!
Don’t simply go through the mindless-motions. Allow the heart-penetrating-emotion to favorably affect your walk with God. When God is in His proper place in your life, your marriage relationship will come to life. It’s an easy recipe, but difficult applying the ingredients. Nevertheless it is up to you!
Be intentional, because thriving marriages do not happen by accident! “If you’re going to co-exist, why not work at it?” my wife says. “It beats living as strangers or enemies.” Some people work harder to anger their spouse than to love them. This makes bitter companions not better soulmates.
It takes two to tango, so both parties need to get dancing!
