“He has nothing to lose by running.”

KNIGHTS LANDING, Calif. – An undocumented immigrant living in California was arrested and released after he crashed into a mobile home, killing 3 of the 4 family members living there.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials located and arrested him early this week.

Police said that 33-year-old Ismael Huazo-Jardinez had been heavily intoxicated and traveling at a ‘high rate of speed’ on the night of the crash. He reportedly lost control of the truck he was driving as he went around a corner, plowing into the sleeping family’s home.

The father, mother, and their 10-year-old son perished in the crash. The family’s 11-year-old daughter was rushed to the hospital with major injuries and remains in critical condition.

Huazo-Jardinez was treated for minor injuries. He faces charges of vehicular manslaughter as well as DUI.

The California Highway Patrol requested that the judge set the suspect’s bail at a minimum of $1 million, if allowing bail at all.

That request was denied.

Instead, Huazo-Jardinez was given a bond of $300,000, which he posted and was released back into the California community.

Neighbors were outraged that he was able to walk back into public after committing such a horrible act.

“As soon as he came out of that vehicle, he was so intoxicated I could smell the alcohol from 10 feet away,” said one neighbor following the accident.

“I think he should be held accountable for the three lives that he took and the little girl who is now an orphan,” said neighbor Mary Ann Mason regarding the set bail.

“I don’t like it because now he has the option to run.”

ICE agents were able to track down Huazo-Jardinez and take him into custody, relieving worries that he would flee before appearing for his trial.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Paul Prince said Ismael Huazo-Jardinez is from Mexico and entered the U.S. illegally. He was arrested in the United States 8 years ago and returned to Mexico voluntarily during that time. Officials are unsure of when the suspect returned to American soil.

The accident killed Jose Pacheco, 38, Anna Pacheco, 34, and their son Angel Pacheco, 10. The residence also housed Pacheco’s parents, but with the scene being so badly damaged in the accident, the area has been condemned and they are now forced to find a new place to stay.
