CHICAGO, IL - Authorities have announced that one of the FBI's 10 most wanted fugitives, who is accused of murdering his wife just hours after their wedding back in 2012, has been captured in Mexico.

According to CBS News, 42-year-old Arnoldo Jimenez was arrested in Monterrery, Mexico, on Thursday, January 30th, and is now awaiting extradition to the United States. Jimenez was wanted on an arrest warrant that charged him with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Estrella Carrera, who was found dead in the bathtub of her apartment on May 12, 2012. Carrera was just 26-years-old when she was murdered.

The New York Post reported that the extradition proceedings have already commenced. Douglas DePodesta, special agent-in-charge of the FBI's Chicago Field Office said in a statement, "The FBI is extremely appreciative of the Burbank Police Department, our law enforcement partners in Mexico, and the public for their tremendous investigative efforts and collaboration in the capture of Ten Fugitive Arnoldo Jimenez."

When officers found her, she was still wearing the silver cocktail dress she wore for their wedding. The two had tied the knot in secret at Chicago City Hall the day before she was found dead. Her family asked police to conduct a wellness check after she failed to pick up her two children the day after the wedding.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said that Jimenez is suspected of stabbing Carrera to death in his 2006 Maserati, then dragging her body into the bathtub of her apartment. Jimenez reportedly called his sister the same day and cried while he told her that he left his bride bleeding after a "bad fight." He hung up and when she tried to call him back, he refused to answer. Investigators believe that his brother later drove him to Mexico.

In 2019, seven years after the incident, the FBI added Jimenez to their top 10 most wanted list. Most of Carrera's family allegedly disapproved of her relationship with Jimenez, even though he is the father of her two-year-old son. Police said that in 2012, the family had reported incidents of violence while the couple was dating.

In 2012, Carerra's older sister said that Jimenez had hit and bruised her sister in the past. She also described Jimenez as "very possessive" and jealous, adding that she doesn't understand why her sister married him at all. Deputy Chief William Casey of the Burbank Police Department said Jimenez's apprehension was "the result of tireless teamwork by the FBI and the Burbank Police Department."

He said, "The FBI and the Burbank Police Department were committed to bringing justice for Estrella Carrera and her family." Jimenez had a prior arrest for domestic violence in a case that did not involve Carerra. When he was taken into custody, he was the fourth-most wanted fugitive in the United States.
