VERO BEACH, Fla. – A man asks a deputy for a ride while carrying a gun in his pocket. This incident could have turned out far different had the deputy let his/her guard down.

The Florida man was reportedly hoping to get a lift home. He ended up getting a ride to jail instead.

Emanuel Guadalupe, 22, was walking in Vero Beach last week when he flagged down a deputy to ask for a ride, according to the Sebastian Daily.

Fortunately for Guadalupe, the deputy agreed to give him a lift. Unfortunately for Guadalupe, the deputy said he could get a ride under the condition that he submit to a search to confirm there were no weapons or contraband on his person.

Authorities said that Guadalupe told the deputy, “hold on.”

“I have something I have to tell you. I have my girlfriend’s gun in my pocket,” Guadalupe said, according to the report.

Guadalupe, who did not have a concealed firearm permit, was arrested after a search uncovered a Ruger handgun in the front pocket of his shorts.

He was booked Thursday at the Indian River County Jail. The charge was carrying a concealed firearm, which is a felony. His bail was set at $5,000.

Altogether now, “Here’s your sign.”
