GOLDEN VALLEY, AZ – According to authorities in Arizona, Michael Turner, Jr. is believed to have shot and killed his landlord, 42-year-old Joshua Blake. The killing is said to have stemmed from an argument over a late rent payment.

Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies have now charged the 31-year-old Turner with first-degree murder.

Investigators say that the younger man had been living in Blake’s house. Just a few days before the homeowner disappeared, they had argued about non-payment. Blake allegedly threatened to evict Turner.

As officials dug deeper, they found that there was potentially more to the story than just rent payments.

“Blake had also allegedly taken the blame for Turner Jr. shooting a subject at the property on June 8th, 2022 and threatened to go to the police to report Turner Jr. being the actual shooter,” the MCSO said.

Blake went missing on or about August 3rd of this year but was not reported missing for 28 more days.

His remains were discovered buried nearly three months after he disappeared. Blake’s body was found near an abandoned property near McGuire’s home.

“During the course of the investigation, it was learned that Michael Turner Jr. and Hunter McGuire, 26 of Golden Valley, had both allegedly shot and killed Joshua Blake,” deputies claim.

“Blake’s body was then buried on an abandoned property located a short distance from where McGuire was living. The current decomposition stage of the body was consistent with the time frame of when Blake had gone missing.”

Turner tried to have a bill of sale for the rental property notarized so that he could take possession of the home a few days after Blake went missing.

On September 1, 2022, the alleged killer was stopped by police driving Blake’s vehicle. He was arrested after that stop for prohibited firearm and narcotics possession. Those charges are completely unrelated to the murder charges.

Turner has been locked up since that September 1st arrest.

Blake is not the only person involved that wound up dead.

Fox 10 Phoenix reported:

“Another man, 26-year-old Hunter McGuire, was also accused of taking part in Blake’s murder. He was wanted for multiple murders in Arizona and Nevada but was later found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a desert area east of Kingman.”

McGuire is believed to have been the triggerman in the deaths of Retta Atkins and Darren VanHouten.

According to the statement posted on the MCSO, McGuire committed suicide after being pursued by law enforcement on October 21st, 2022, after he was identified as the individual who had committed multiple homicides in Kingman and Las Vegas.

Also dead after that brief chase is McGuire’s girlfriend, 32-year-old Samantha Branek. It is unclear if he killed her or if she also died of a self-inflicted gunshot. Regardless of how they died, the fact remains, the body count is piling up.

On October 19th, MCSO deputies responded to a possible homicide call. Once they arrived, they discovered the body of 35-year-old Martin eric Nelson, Jr. He was lying behind a vehicle, having been shot several times in the head.

A man told deputies that he was there when Nelson was killed. He told them that the pair had come to the property to retrieve a trailer stolen from them when McGuire appeared and opened fire, killing Nelson.
