Colonel George P. Beach II, Superintendent of the New York State Police sadly reports the death of Trooper Timothy Pratt.

Trooper Pratt, 55, was just starting his shift and observed a semi truck parked in the center turn lane of Ballard Road in front of the Wilton barracks. The driver was lost and requested assistance. Trooper Pratt gave directions to the driver to get him to his intended destination.

As Trooper Pratt stepped down off the truck tractor, he was immediately struck by a passing vehicle. Trooper Pratt was critically injured, emergency care was provided to him at the scene by other Troopers and first responders.

Trooper Pratt was transported to Saratoga Memorial Hospital and later airlifted to Albany Medical Center for further care.

Trooper Pratt succumbed to his injuries about three hours after being struck.

Trooper Pratt was a twenty nine year veteran of the New York State Police and served his entire career in Troop G. He was assigned to the Traffic Incident Management Unit at the barracks. Trooper Pratt was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He is survived by his fiancee, daughter and two sons. Trooper Pratt’s father also served in the New York State Police until his retirement in 1974.
