Chief William McManus of the San Antonio Police Department in Texas sadly reports the death of Officer Steven Franco.

Officer Franco, 38, failed to return to his assigned sub-station upon the completion of his shift. A search was conducted and he was found in his patrol vehicle suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. The patrol vehicle was located in on a dead end street an industrial area on the southeast side of the city. The vehicle was flanked by shipping containers and was difficult to see.

The preliminary investigation shows that the gunshot wound was most likely self-inflicted. He was pronounced deceased at the time other officers located him. The investigation into Officer Franco’s death is continuing.

Officer Franco was a ten year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department. He had recently returned to the police department from a military tour of duty overseas. He is survived by his wife, who also is a police officer.

Officer Steven Franco-gone, but never forgotten. EOW: Tuesday, April 19, 2016.
