Chief Fred Bordallo Jr. of the Guam Police Department on the United States Territorial Island of Guam sadly reports the death of Officer Siegfred Mortera.

Officer Mortera, 49, known to his peers as “Dove,” was a trainee member of the department’s SWAT team. During a physical training run at Eagles Field, Officer Mortera suddenly fell to his knees and then collapsed. Other Officers that witnessed the event, quickly assessed his condition and commenced CPR.

Emergency medical personnel were summoned while the officers continued CPR. Hospital Medic’s (US Naval Corpsmen) arrived continued emergency medical treatment while he was transported to the Naval Hospital on the military base.

Officer Mortera remained unresponsive in the Cardiac Care Unit until his passing away three days later. Two other officers were also transported to the hospital suffering from the intense heat related conditions of dehydration.

Officer Mortera served the Guam Police Department for 17 years. He is survived by his parents, wife, four children and three grandchildren.
