Eddie T. Johnson, Superintendent of the Chicago Police Department sadly reports the death of Officer Samuel Jimenez.
Officer Jimenez, 28, was shot and killed while he was responding to a shots fired call in the area of a hospital. Upon arrival officers observed a male suspect fatally shoot his ex-fiancé in the Emergency Department parking lot and then flee inside the hospital.
Jimenez and his partner pursued the suspect exchanging gunfire as they ran down the hallways. Jimenez and a hospital employee were struck by the suspect’s gunfire. Jimenez’ partner fired upon the suspect killing him.
Jimenez and the hospital employee were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where they both succumbed to their gunshot wounds.
Officer Jimenez served the Chicago Police Department for 1 ½ years. He was assigned to the 2nd District. His wife, three young children, parents and siblings survive him.
Officer Samuel Jimenez is gone, but will never be forgotten.
