Commissioner Charles Ramsey of the Philadelphia Police Department sadly reports the death of Officer Robert Wilson.
Officer Wilson, 30, was inside the GameStop video game store when two subjects entered the store and announced a robbery. Officer Wilson, who was in full uniform, immediately confronted the suspects. A gun battle followed where Wilson was struck three times. Officer Wilson, although mortally wounded, returned fire.
Officer Wilson’s partner who was outside the store heard the gunfire and entered the store. Another gun battle ensued where one of the suspects was shot in the leg. The second suspect hid his weapon under his clothing and attempted to “blend in with the crowd” in the store. He was identified, searched and also arrested.
Officer Wilson was transported to Temple University Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds a short time later.
Officer Wilson served the Philadelphia Police Department for 8 years and was currently assigned to the 22nd District. He is survived by his wife and two children, nine and one.
