Chief Bruce Owens of the Summerville Police Department in South Carolina sadly reports the death of Officer Robert Blajszczak.

Officer Blajszczak, 40, unexpectedly collapsed while he was conducting a traffic stop on October 20. Citizens called 911 and reported that the officer had collapsed while they rendered aid.

Officer Blajszczak was transported to Summerville Medical Center where he remained in the intensive care unit until his death six days later.

Officer Blajszczak was recently honored by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety for his achievements and outstanding performance in DUI and alcohol related arrests during 2013. The DPS honored several officers at their Law Enforcement DUI Challenge Ceremonies on April 2, 2014.

Officer Blajszczak was a 7-year veteran of the Summerville Police Department and was assigned to the Traffic Division. He had previously served 6 years in Moncks Corner Police Department and three years at Edisto Beach Police Department.
