Chief Sheila A. Coley of the Newark Police Department sadly reports the death of Officer Reinaldo Arocha, Jr.

Officer Arocha, 47, was carrying out his normal day shift duties at the Fourth Precinct Station house when he suddenly collapsed about 7:15 am.

Other officers at the scene immediately administered CPR and other lifesaving first aid until he was transported to University Hospital by Newark Fire Department first responders.

Officer Arocha was pronounced dead at the University Hospital Emergency Room a few hours later. It was determined that he had suffered a massive heart attack.

Officer Arocha was a 23-year department veteran who is survived by his wife and children.
