In Memoriam – Officer Martoiya Lang


In Memoriam – Officer Martoiya LangChief Toney Armstrong of the Memphis, Tennessee Police Department has sadly reported that Officer Martoiya Lang, 32, was shot and killed early yesterday on the east side of the city.  Officer Lang and her partner, Officer William Vromah, also 32, pulled up in the driveway of a residence at 1062 Mendenhall Cove around 8:00 am in the process of executing a narcotics search warrant at the residence.

Upon their arrival, the suspect/resident exited the house and opened fire on the officers.  Both officers were struck multiple times by the gun fire and both officers returned fire wounding the 21 year old suspect.   Both officers were transported to Memphis Regional Medical Center.  Officer Vromah was listed in stable condition but has since been released from the hospital.  Officer Lang died of her injuries.

The suspect was also transported to the Regional Medical Center.  His condition has been reported as critical but his identity has not been released.  A second suspect who was in the residence was taken in custody.  The identity of the 26 year old male has not been released and no charges against him have been filed with the court.

Officer Martoiya Lang was a 9 1/2 year veteran of the Memphis Police Department and is survived by four young children.  Officer Martoiya Lang, gone but never forgotten.  EOW: Friday, December 14, 2012
