Chief Michael Boiteri of the Plymouth Massachusetts Police Department sadly reports that Motor Officer Gregg Maloney, 43, died Tuesday afternoon following a motorcycle crash at about 2:15 pm.

Officer Maloney was on patrol with another Motor Officer on Samoset Street near Pilgrim Trail when his police motorcycle crashed.  The investigation is revolving around what caused Officer Maloney to be either knocked off or what caused him to fall off his motorcycle.

The motorcycle continued down the road for about a quarter of a mile and came to a rest on the sidewalk near the entrance to the Plymouth Mobile Estates subdivision.

Officer Maloney sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth for treatment.  He was later transferred via medivac helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where he succumbed to his injuries.

The motorcycle crash is being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police.

Officer Maloney served the Plymouth Police Department for 17 years and had been assigned to the Motor Unit since 2009.  He is survived by his wife and two teenaged sons.
