In Memoriam: Officer Daniel Ellis

Chief Larry Brock of the Richmond Police Department in Kentucky, sadly reports the death of Officer Daniel Ellis.

Officer Ellis, 33, was searching an apartment complex for a suspect who had mugged and robbed a woman at a near by gas station. While he was searching an apartment the suspect came out of hiding and in an ambush style, shot Officer Ellis in the back of the head. A second officer who was searching the apartment with Officer Ellis, shot and wounded the suspect. The suspect was then taken into custody.

Officer Ellis was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he remained in the neurological intensive care unit until he succumbed to his gun shot wound two days later.

The shooting investigation is being conducted by the Kentucky State Police.

Officer Ellis served the Richmond Police Department for seven years. He is survived by his wife and his four year old son.
