Anthony Holt, Chief of the Wayne State University Police Department and M. Roy Wilson, President of Wayne State University sadly report the death of Officer Collin Rose.
Officer Rose, 29, was investigating the theft of audio and navigation equipment from vehicles parked at the University parking. Officer Rose stopped a suspect on a bicycle, to interrogate him. Following a short discussion, Officer Rose proceeded to take the suspect into custody. During the arrest, the suspect pulled away from him, brandished a handgun and shot Officer Rose in the head.
Witnesses stated that following the first shot, that at least two more gunshots were heard where the suspect shot Officer Rose two more times.
The suspect fled the scene of the shooting leaving his bicycle behind in the middle of the street. The suspect was located and arrested later in the night.

Officer Rose was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and was placed in the intensive care unit. Officer Rose succumbed to his gunshot wound the following day.
Officer Rose served the Wayne State University Police Department for five and one half years. He also served as a canine officer.

Officer Rose had previously served with the Richland Police Department.
Officer Rose is survived by his fiancee’ and parents and siblings.
