Chief Randy Bratton of the Corsicana Police Department in Texas sadly reports the death of Officer Chester Ray Jones III.

Officer Jones, 48, had volunteered to fill in for a dispatcher instead of working road patrol. As he got up from his dispatch console to walk out of the office during his shift, he suddenly collapsed. Fellow employees immediately called for medical assistance and started CPR.

Officer Jones was transported to Navarro Regional Hospital in critical and unresponsive condition. Despite great efforts from all emergency personnel to revive him, he succumbed to his illness later in the day.

Although it is suspected that Officer Jones suffered a massive heart attack, the official cause of death is pending an autopsy by the medical examiner. The Nevarro County Sheriff Department is conducting the official investigation which is standard protocol for an on-duty death.

Officer Jones served the Corsicana Police Department for twenty one years. He served as a Dispatcher, Patrol Officer, Motor Officer, SWAT Team Member, Hostage Negotiator and Detective/Investigator.

Officer Jones is survived by his parents, brother, sisters and an extended family.

Officer Chester Ray Jones III-gone, but never forgotten. EOW: Monday, August 24, 2015.
