In Memoriam Officer Casey Kohlmeier


In Memoriam Officer Casey KohlmeierChief Jim Woolford, of the Pontiac Illinois Police Department has reported that Officer Casey Kohlmeier,29, was killed in a vehicle crash about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday

Officer Kohlmeier and his K9 partner, Draco, were working traffic patrol on Interstate I-55 near the 201 mile marker north of Route 23.  Officer Kohlmeier had his patrol vehicle parked in the median crossover of the freeway.

During a period of heavy rain, a vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed, left the roadway and slid into the median.  The vehicle struck Officer Kohlmeier’s patrol unit killing both Kohlmeier and K9 Draco instantly. 

The other driver sustained serious injuries and survived the crash.  He remains hospitalized while being treated for his injuries at a local hospital.

The Illinois State Police is conducting the traffic crash investigation and reconstruction.

Officer Kohlmeier and K9 Draco were assigned to the Livingston County Proactive Unit.   Kohlmeier was a six year veteran of the department and an Air Force veteran who is survived by his parents.
