Richard Shafer, Chief of the Southern Methodist University Police Department in Texas sadly reports the death of Officer Calvin “Mark” McCullers.

Officer McCullers is presumed to have drowned when his patrol vehicle was swept away during torrential flooding in a severe thunderstorm. Officer McCullers called for assistance when a wall of water struck his patrol vehicle and swept it into Turtle Creek.

He attempted to exit his vehicle and reach a safe area but was unsuccessful. His vehicle was located and removed from the creek, however after a week long search, his body had not been found. The search will continue until he is located and his body recovered.

The search is being conducted by the Highland Park Department of Public Safety, Dallas Fire and Rescue SMU officers as well as volunteer personnel.

Officer McCullers served the Southern Methodist University Police Department for one year and five months. He is a U. S. Marine Corps veteran. He is survived by his wife and six children.
