Chief Steven Menke of the Olathe (Kansas) Police Department in Kansas sadly reports the death of Motor Officer Michael Kern.

Officer Kern, 43, suffered a fatal heart attack while detailing his motor unit in preparation for a Presidential escort during an upcoming visit by President Barack Obama. He collapsed in the driveway of his home just prior to the conclusion of his day shift assignment.

Officer Kern served with the Olathe Police Department for 13 years. He had previously served the Cass County Sheriff Department for three years. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son.
