Stephen Zappala Jr. District Attorney for the Allegheny County Prosecutor’s Office- Investigative Division, sadly reports the death of Detective Paul J. Koropal.

Detective Koropal who was in his late 40’s, was working on a Federal Multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force for Fayette County. He was completing paperwork associated with the execution of 11 search warrants when he told his partner that he didn’t feel well. His partner knew him well enough that he recognized that his sudden illness was serious and called an ambulance.

Detective Koropal was transported to the Uniontown Hospital for medical treatment and suffered a fatal heart attack in the emergency room of the hospital.

Detective Koropal served the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office in their Investigative Division for 18 years. For the past 16 years he was assigned to the Pennsylvania State Police Auto Theft Task Force.

Detective Koropal is survived by his wife and two children, a son and daughter.
