Sheriff Josh Eckerson of the Harrison County Sheriff Department in Missouri sadly reports the death of Deputy Steven “Brett” Hawkins.

Deputy Hawkins, 34, became ill following an emergency response call to locate and assist a frantic person. The call required a search of a house and surrounding area around the house. He ended his shift and returned home. Several hours later after still not feeling any better, he went to the Harrison County Community Hospital and learned that he had suffered a heart attack. While receiving medical treatment, he suffered another massive heart attack and died.

Deputy Hawkins served the Harrison County Sheriff Department for three years. He started his law enforcement career at Bethany Police Department and later served with the Clinton County Sheriff Department before joining Harrison County Sheriff Department. He was the agency’s D.A.R.E. Officer and had a special bond with all the kids in the school system in Harrison County.

Deputy Hawkins is survived by his wife, daughter, three sons, mother, and three siblings.
