In Memoriam: Deputy Sheriff Richard Hall

Sheriff Al St. Lawrence of the Chatham County Sheriff Department sadly reports the death of Deputy Richard Hall.

Deputy Hall, 45, was ending his shift and heading home when and attempted to make a U-turn on US-280. As Deputy Hall was making the turn, his patrol vehicle was struck broadside by a pickup truck.

The other driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Deputy Hall sustained critical injuries and died at the scene of the crash.

The reason for Deputy Hall attempting to make the U-turn is a part of the crash investigation which is being conducted by the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.

He had previously served in the Sex Offender Registry Unit and Road Patrol with the former Chatham County Police Department. Deputy Hall was due to be married in one month.
