Sheriff Kenny Harden of the Butler County Alabama Sheriff Department sadly reports the death of Deputy Sheriff John Williamson.

Deputy Williamson, 48, suffered a heart attack after a struggle with a subject that he was attempting to arrest. Believing that he strained a muscle following the arrest, he did not seek medical treatment immediately. Three days later the pain persisted and became intense. He then drove himself to a local hospital.

He was diagnosed as suffering from a heart attack. He received medical treatment and was being transferred to Baptist Hospital for surgery. While he was being transported via ambulance, he suffered another massive heart attack. He died two days later at Baptist Souty Hospital.

Deputy Williamson was a Navy veteran who the Butler County Sheriff Department for 20 years. He is survived by his father, sister and two brothers.
