Deputy Valdez was trapped within the vehicle.

Fire Department first responders and paramedics extricated Deputy Valdez from the patrol vehicle and Life Flight transported him to Memorial Hermann Trauma Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

The SUV driver, Kelly Jo Ivey, 29, was also transported to Memorial Hermann Trauma Center via ground ambulance for minor injuries. After being treated for her injuries she was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI – Methamphetamine.
