In Memoriam: Deputy Sheriff Dennis Wallace

Sheriff Adam Christianson of the Stanislaus County Sheriff Department in California sadly reports the death of Deputy Sheriff Dennis Wallace.

Deputy Wallace, 53, was dispatched to a suspicious vehicle report at the Fox Grove Fishing Access parking lot. Deputy Wallace provided dispatch with the license plate number of the vehicle. When the Dispatcher advised that the vehicle was stolen, Deputy Wallace requested a backup officer. Deputy Wallace then got out of his patrol vehicle and inspected the vehicle.

When Deputy Christian Torres arrived on the scene, he found Deputy Wallace outside his patrol vehicle, suffering from two gunshot wounds to the forehead. One report indicated that Deputy Wallace was transported to a hospital where he died.

The suspect was identified from the stolen vehicle report and was taken into custody about five hours after the shooting. It was also learned that the suspect had outstanding felony warrants for his arrest.

Deputy Wallace served the Stanislaus County Sheriff Department for twenty years. He was active in his community by coaching youth soccer and refereeing football. He was also active in anti-drug (DARE) and other early intervention programs in the Sheriff’s Department that involved kids. Deputy Wallace is survived by his wife Mercedes, and their children.

Deputy Sheriff Dennis Wallace-gone, but never forgotten. EOW: Sunday, November 13, 2016.
