Sheriff Scott Jones of the Sacramento County Sheriff Department in California sadly reports the death of Deputy Danny Oliver.

Deputy Oliver, 47, was shot and killed as he and his partner were investigating a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of a Motel 6 in the 2000 block of Arden Way at about 10:20 a.m.

As Deputy Oliver and his partner approached the suspicious vehicle, a male opened fire on the officers from within the vehicle with a high-powered rifle. Deputy Oliver was struck by a bullet in the forehead. Oliver’s partner returned fire on the suspects as they fled in the vehicle.   Deputy Oliver was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Deputy Oliver served the Sacramento County Sheriff Department for 15 years and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
