Milwaukee County Sheriff Inspector Edward Bailey announced that Deputy Sheriff Sergio Aleman was killed in an automobile accident Tuesday on I-43, at near the Juneau Road overpass at Winnebago Street.   The accident occurred at approximately 12:15 pm.

Deputy Aleman was driving one of the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s office motorist assistance trucks when it rear ended the back of a flatbed tow truck that was stopped on the shoulder of the highway. Apparently the flat bed of the tow truck penetrated the windshield of the patrol truck that Deputy Aleman was driving.  Deputy Aleman was extricated from the vehicle and transported to Froedtert Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash is not immediately known and the investigation is continuing.

Deputy Sheriff Sergio Aleman served the Milwaukee County Sheriff Department for 18 years.

The last two deputies killed in the line of duty died in 2000 when a department helicopter crashed, killing the flight officer and the observer.
