Sheriff Andrew Skiles of the Washington County MIssouri Sheriff’s Department has reported that Deputy Sheriff Christopher Parsons, 31, was shot and killed in an ambush setting early this morning about 2:00 am.
Deputy Parsons had responded to a 911 call for assistance with an ambulance for an unconscious person at a residence in a trailer park on Nugget Road in Mineral Point. After that female victim was loaded into the ambulance, a single rifle gunshot was rang out and Deputy Parsons was struck and killed.
The male suspect has tentatively identified as Gary Sancegrow, white male, 30 years of age, 6’2″ 125 pounds, red hair and brown eyes. Sancegrow was wearing camouflage clothing at the time of the shooting. He was seen fleeing into a near by wooded area with his weapon and remains at large. He is considered armed and dangerous at this time. A motive for the shooting has not been determined as there is no known connection between the suspect and Deputy Parsons.
Trooper Justin Wheatley of the Missouri Highway Patrol has advised that there is an active manhunt is in progress for Sancegrow. All citizens in the area have been cautioned to keep their doors locked and report any suspicious persons to their local law enforcement agencies.
