Portsmouth Virginia Sheriff Billy Watson sadly reports that Deputy Billy Grimsley, 59 , died as a result of injuries he sustained in a 2012 motorcycle accident. Sheriff Watson, a motorcycle officer himself, is well known for his caring nature towards his deputies and employees.
The crash occurred on December 7th, 2012, as Grimsley was returning to Portsmouth. He had just represented the Sheriff’s Office in the Poquoson, Virginia Christmas Parade, a time-honored tradition in the Tidewater region of Virginia. Details of the crash were not published. Deputy Grimsley died at local hospital in Portsmouth.
Grimsley served with the Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office for over 15 years, both as an auxiliary deputy and as paid staff. He is survived by his wife, Robin; daughter, Kimberly and a son, Nicholas, as well as a sister and three brothers.
