Executive Director Brad Livingston of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, sadly reports the death of Corrections Officer Timothy Davison.
Officer Davison, 47, was escorting a 37 year old prison inmate from a dayroom to his cell in the Barry B. Telford Unit of the New Boston Prison facility when the inmate attacked Officer Davison.
The inmate managed to obtain an iron bar that is used to open the slots in cell doors for the purpose of delivering meals to the prisoners. Officer Davison was savagely beaten by the inmate with the iron bar and sustained serious head injuries in the assault. The inmate was subdued by other corrections officers and immediately placed in isolation. The inmate was transferred to another maximum security facility pending completion of an investigation.
Officer Davison was transported via medivac helicopter to Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The inmate who attacked Officer Davison was serving a life sentence for robbery and aggravated assault. He had an extensive history of attacking corrections personnel.
Officer Davison had served the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in the Corrections Division for eight months. Officer Davison is a divorced father of two children.
