In Memoriam: Corrections Officer Lisa Mauldin


Sheriff Ron Stoval of the Miller County Sheriff Department in Arkansas sadly reports the death of Corrections Officer Lisa Mauldin.

Officer Mauldin, 47, and another female Corrections Officer, Demaris Allen, 36, were attacked by an inmate Sunday afternoon while they were in the kitchen area of the Miller County Jail. Details that led up to the altercation and assault have not been released. The Miller County Sheriff Department is in southern Arkansas near Texarkana on the Arkansas-Texas border.

Both correction officers were transported to the Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana where Officer Maudlin succumbed to her injuries. Officer Allen was transferred to the University of Arkansas Medical Science Facility in Little Rock in critical condition.

Other Corrections Officers were able to subdue the inmate, he remains in custody pending the investigation into the assault. The Arkansas State Police is conducting the investigation into the cause of the altercation and subsequent murder of Officer Mauldin.

The suspect made an initial court appearance where his bond was posted at one million dollars for Capital Murder and Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer. The suspect was serving a 15 to 20-year sentence for aggravated robbery and domestic assault. He was later transferred to a State of Arkansas Department of Corrections facility.

Officer Mauldin’s length of service with the Miller County Sheriff Department was not listed as well as her surviving family members.
