Chief J.P. Levesque of the Thunder Bay Police Service sadly reports that Constable Joseph Prevett, 50, has passed away due to a heart attack.

Constable Prevett and his K-9 partner Timber, were in Gravenhurst attending a joint training exercise with the Ontario Provincial Police.

Constable Prevett and Timber were navigating an obstacle course at about 10:45 am when Constable Prevett suddenly collapsed.  CPR and emergency first aid was rendered at the scene and while he was being transported to the hospital.  Emergency Room physicians were unable to revive Constable Prevett.

Constable Prevett started his law enforcement career with the Peel Regional Police west of Toronto in 1998 and then joined the Thunder Bay Police Service in 2003.  He was assigned as a Police Service Dog Handler with the Emergency Task Unit.  He is survived by his wife and children.
