Community Police Officer Rod Lazenby of the Municipal District of Foothills in Alberta, Canada died in the line of duty as a result of an altercation with 46 year old Trevor Kloschinsky.

The incident occurred at the Tangled Spur Ranch near Priddis.  This encounter was the culmination of a three-year ongoing investigation regarding an eviction and the illegal housing of over 30 dogs at the ranch.  Authorities issued repetitive violation notices to Kloschinsky. As a result of the altercation, Officer Lazenby sustained critical injuries.

Lazenby was transported to the District 8 Police Department in southwest Calgary in his departmental patrol vehicle by Kloschinsky.  Police Department personnel in Calgary transported Lazenby to Rockyview Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The following day, kloschinsky turned himself in as the “person of interest” and was later charged with the murder of Lazenby. Officials are not releasing any information reference this incident other than to say that Officer Lazenby was not shot.  An autopsy will be conducted Monday to determine the exact cause of death.

Officer Rod Lazenby served the Municipal District of Foothills Police Department for three years.   He retired from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 2006 after serving for 35 years as a Mountie.
