Director Fidel Alicea of the Puerto Rico Department of Justice and Malave Rafael Ramos, the Acting Director of the Puerto Rico Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation have jointly reported that Agent Mayra Ramirez-Barreto, 52 years and Corrections Officer Eliezer Columbus-Claussells, 35 years, were both killed in a vehicle crash about 5:00Thursday morning.

The officers were traveling south bound on Highway 177 near 68th Street in Stillwater, Oklahoma when another vehicle crossed the centerline and struck their vehicle head on.

The extradition team officers were on their way to the Cimmarron Prison Facility in Cushing to extradite several prisoners back to Puerto Rico.

Agent Ramiriz-Barreto, the driver, was pinned in the vehicle for several hours and died at the scene of the crash as did the other driver, 49 year old, Michelle Marie Anastasia.

Corrections Officer Eliezer Columbus-Claussells and the two other corrections officers Anthony Vega, 41 years and Juan Rosario, 32 years were transported to Stillwater Medical Center.  Corrections Officer Columbus-Claussells later died of his injuries. Corrections Officers Vega and Rosario were listed in critical condition.

Trooper Betsy Randolph of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol stated that all occupants of both vehicles were wearing seat belts.  It was raining at the time of the accident and the traffic crash is being investigated by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Agent Ramirez-Barreto served the Puerto Rico Department of Justice for 30 years and was assigned to the Extraditon Unit.

Corrections Officer Columbus-Claussells served the Puerto Rico Department of Corrections for 10 years and was assigned to the Special Operations Unit.  He is survived by a 7 year old son.
