Superintendent Jose L. Caldero Lopez of the Puerto Rico Police Department sadly reports the death of Agent Gilberto Colon-Leon.

Agent Colon-Leon, 51, was driving a friend home when multiple subjects approached them at the intersection of Calle Santiago Iglesias and Calle Ruiz Belvis, in Coamo, and attempted to rob them. Agent Colón-Leon was shot multiple times when he attempted to draw his weapon and take action.

Following the shooting, the suspects fled the scene on foot, however, due to an intense investigation, they were identified, arrested and charged with Agent Colon-Leon’s murder.

Agent Colon-Leon served the Puerto Rico Police Department for 19 years 8 months. He is survived by his wife and two children.
