Biden administration working with Catholic Charities to provide illegals free hotels, commercial flights into the U.S. interior

EL CENTRO, CA – Illegal aliens crossing the southern border have been receiving free food, hotel rooms, and commercial flights into the United States interior by non-governmental agencies funded by American taxpayers.

The Daily Mail is reporting on a scheme between non-governmental agencies and the federal government to facilitate the release of illegal aliens into the U.S. interior. The non-governmental agencies include Catholic Charities of San Diego, the Shapiro Foundation, and the Tripadvisors Foundation.

In southern California, the Biden administration and the state have entered into an arrangement with these agencies to provide hotel rooms costing $71 to $90 per night to illegal aliens free of charge. The administration, according to the report, has similar schemes set up in Arizona and Texas, costing American taxpayers $86 million, or $72,000 per border crosser.

In their exclusive report, The Daily Mail wrote:

“An Iranian couple fleeing religious persecution, a Venezuelan mother escaping political violence, and an Ecuadorean family who just want a better life: these are just some of the migrants being temporarily housed in a pair of California hotels for nearly $500,000 a month.”

The Daily Mail was given access to two locations in El Centro, California which have been overwhelmed by illegal border crossers. The locations were so inundated that the local detention center could not hold them all.

To deal with the crisis, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the state of California have funded 100 Ramada Hotel rooms costing $90 per night, and another 90 rooms were booked at the Travelodge costing $71 per night, to house border crossers.

Aided by the Department of Social Services, the hotels are being managed by Catholic Charities of Sand Diego, according to The Daily Mail. The charity is providing the illegal aliens with COVID-19 testing, lodging, and meals free of charge.

On Catholic Charities’ website, the charity wrote:

“Catholic Charities Community Services and our community partners need your help during this humanitarian crisis with Asylum Seeking Families. Families from South America are fleeing prosecution among other hardships, seeking a better life, and local churches and nonprofits are being called to help.”

Case manager Alberto Dilla, 31, from El Centro, explained:

“Every day, we get an email from Border Patrol telling us how many people they’re bringing. The van comes to the Ramada and they have Covid tests. Anyone who is positive stays to quarantine there for 10 days.

“Everyone else gets taken to the Travelodge where we give them food, a place to sleep and arrange travel for them to wherever they want to go.”

The hotels are a temporary band aid to try and shelter the illegal aliens crossing into the U.S, until they can be processed and transported into the U.S. interior.

Shelter manager Cassandra Castro explained:

“We just try to make sure they have everything they need before they go on to their final destination.”

Catholic Charities operates daily shuttles to Yuma and San Diego airports, where the illegal aliens are provided free commercial flights to their ultimate destinations. Some of the flights have been paid for by Miles4Migrants, which uses donated airmiles to pay for flights.

Most families stay in the hotels for no more than 48 hours before being sent to their final destinations.  Thus far, 712 illegal aliens have passed through the hotels, according to Catholic Charities CEO Vin Pajanor. He said that approximately 48 new migrants arrive daily.

The Biden administration has been struggling to control a massive influx of illegal border crossing since he took office. The surge has overwhelmed detention facilities and caused immigration officials to release increasing numbers of illegal aliens unto the U.S.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed migrants were being released into the United States to await immigration hearings, saying some holding facilities were at maximum safe capacity.

When President Biden took office in January, he promised relaxed immigration enforcement, and a rush on the border created a crisis the administration has been working to stem. The federal government has sent the message to migrants coming to the border to remain in their home countries until new policies can be created.

The pleas have not stopped the border crossings, and lax enforcement is adding to the flood of illegal immigrants into U.S. states.

Theresa Cardinal Brown, director of immigration and cross-border policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington, described the problem:

“People are arriving, you can’t just stop everything while they create the new system.”

The Washington Times reported in February that the administration was struggling to transport as many illegal immigrants into the country and away from the border as quickly as possible:

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is scrambling to find bigger airplanes and figure out more ground transport capacity for soaring numbers of illegal immigrants.”

Report: Illegal immigrants being transported to homes inside country to avoid the appearance of border crisis

February 28, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – Struggling with an influx of illegal immigrants answering his call at the border for eased immigration policies, the Biden administration was forced to re-open the child-only camp for illegals.

Conscious of the appearance as “kids in cages,” the administration plans to simply fly or bus more Central American migrants to homes throughout the United States.

By moving more immigrants away from the border and into the country, Biden is reportedly trying to make the false appearance that there is no border crisis.

He is also reportedly desperate not to appear to be keeping unaccompanied children in detention centers labeled as “children in cages” by his own party.

The Department of Health and Human Services released a statement Thursday stating its Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) has authorized to arrange transportation for unaccompanied children to sponsors inside the U.S.:

“(ORR) has authorized programs to pay transport fees for unaccompanied children (including airline tickets), including escort transport (where necessary by airline or ORR policy) in order to facilitate release of children to approved sponsors.

“ORR care providers are authorized to use program funds to purchase airline tickets in the event that a sponsor is not able to pay fees associated with commercial airfare, and a child’s physical release would be otherwise delayed.”

NumbersUSA policy director Rosemary Jenks told Breitbart that the move is less about the backlog, and more about open borders:

“This isn’t about a backlog. This is about Biden’s policies creating a border surge … They’re getting exactly what we all knew they were going to get, which is more people coming across, including more unaccompanied children.

“So now they’re trying to figure out what to do with them because you know AOC (Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, (D-NY)) and others are so unhappy with their ‘kids in containers’ policy that they’ve got to fly them away from the border, so nobody notices them.”

Jenks said that the Biden administration is trying to create a situation where open borders are the only alternative.

The complication the transportation of illegal migrant children across the country is trying to solve, she argues, is the appearance of a rush at the border.

This is the same strategy attempted by the Obama Administration:

“The administration wants open borders — they want anyone from around the world to come here as fast as they possibly can.”

She points out that the resulting rush is forcing officials to hide the rush by moving the illegals away from the border and into the country:

“Former President Obama knows that because when he was flying the unaccompanied children all over the country, all hell broke loose and governors started complaining, and citizens started complaining. I don’t see how anyone with a memory…would call that a win.”

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas told Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that the cost was not an issue in moving migrants away from the border.

Mayorkas was also considering using funds from the now-suspended border wall program for the transportation program.

He told ICE leadership:

“We need to prepare for border surges now. We need to begin making changes immediately. We should privilege action over cost considerations; do what is needed, and the department will work on funding afterward.

“ICE should increase the cadence of its transport and arrange for individuals to complete their processing and ATD’ing (alternatives to detention) at processing centers north of the border.”

Biden is attempting to avoid the appearance of immigrants flooding the border and being detained, especially migrant children.

The administration attacked President Trump and his administration for keeping “children in cages.”
