USA Today is reporting that the International Law Enforcement Trainers and Educator’s Association or ILEETA is cautioning all officers to look at every single angle in considering the staggering increase in law enforcement line-of-duty deaths in this country.

In particular, officials are concerned about ambushes of police officers during the execution of high-risk drug and fugitive warrants.  In 2012, only 11 days into the year, four law enforcement officers have already been shot and killed in the United States.  The most violent incident thus far includes a Utah gun battle which left one cop dead and five injured.

The Department of Justice is meeting with experts and law enforcement officials later in January to consider best practice models and initiatives to decrease officer line-of-duty deaths.
