LOS ANGELES — Gravitas Ventures has announced the acquisition of worldwide rights to Fallen with a theatrical and on demand release September 8. The critical documentary, which won the Audience Award for “Best Feature Film” at the Phoenix Film Festival, brings fallen police officers and the constant battle law enforcement faces with media to maintain their reputations to the forefront. It is masterfully narrated by Golden Globe® and Emmy® winning actor Michael Chiklis (“The Shield”).
In the United States, a Police Officer is killed in the line of duty every 53 hours. Behind these numbers are countless unsung stories of both heartbreak and triumph overshadowed by negative headlines and criticism at every turn. Pulling back the curtain on this polarizing topic, Fallen rises above divisive politics to expose the humanity behind these statistics with an unflinching look at the constant threats officers face and the devastation left behind when one of them is senselessly killed. Giving these fallen heroes a voice, Fallen tells their stories through the eyes of the partners, families and communities left behind.
Director/Producer/Writer Thomas Marchese conceived of the film when he himself was a police Detective; his life was put in jeopardy in making Fallen. “I really wanted to pull back the curtain and give the viewer a raw look at what it is to be an officer on the street,” he said. “I want to give people a look past the badge and the uniform and have them really see what’s at stake when a cop walks out the door, and bring light to the devastation that’s left when an officer is killed.”
“Gravitas is thrilled to be partnering with such a talented and passionate filmmaker as Thomas Marchese who, at the literal risk of his life saw this film through to completion. Fallen is an important and thought-provoking film that we look forward to bringing to a global audience’s attention,” said Gravitas’ Director of Acquisitions, Josh Spector.
Thomas Marchese served as Director, Writer, Producer and Cinematographer of Fallen, his feature-length debut. Emmy nominee Brenda Strong (“Desperate Housewives,” “Supergirl”) is also a Producer, as is John Farmanesh-Bocca. The deal was negotiated by Josh Spector for Gravitas and Alana Crow on behalf of the filmmakers.
