Former FDA commissioner: Six foot social distancing rule was arbitrary, unknown where it came from

WASHINGTON, DC- In a surprise to nobody who has been paying attention, the former commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) admitted Sunday that the so-called “six foot social distancing” rule mandated by political officials across the country was completely arbitrary, Breitbart News reports.

Scott Gottlieb told host Margaret Brennan on CBS News’ Face the Nation that the rule recommended by public health officials was “arbitrary in and of itself” and noted that “nobody knows where it came from.”

Gottlieb went through the rules and risks early in the pandemic with Brennan and noted that at some point the Trump administration changed focus from masking and social distancing to the effect lockdowns and rules would have on the economy and on children.

“My view is that they were sold on the idea that you weren’t going to be able to really affect the spread and that anything you did was just going to have so many repercussions in terms of impact on children who might not be in school.

Impact on the economy, that the costs were worse than the disease,” Gottlieb said, noting that schools were a “perfect example of the lack of effective policy making.”

According to Forbes, Gottlieb admitted that the six-foot rule was a compromise between the CDC and the Trump administration, with the CDC recommending 10 feet and the administration which said that number was “inoperable.”

He admitted that both recommendations were unfounded and showed “the lack of rigor” in how the CDC made such public health recommendations. He admitted the arbitrary number decreased confidence (by the American people) in the pandemic response.

“The CDC said 10 feet, it should be 10 feet, but 10 feet was no more right than six feet and ultimately became three feet.

But when it became three feet, the basis for the CDC’s decision to ultimately revise it from six feet to three feet was a study that they had in the prior fall. So they changed it in the spring.

They had done a study in the fall where they showed that if you have two masked individuals, two people wearing masks, the risk of transmission is reduced 70% with masks if you’re three feet apart.

So they said on the basis of that, we can now make a judgment that three feet is an appropriate distance.”

It is assumed the six-foot rule emanated from “some old studies” on the flu which showed droplets don’t travel further than six feet. Research has since found that COVID-19 can be spread through “aerosols,” which have the potential to travel further than droplets.

The six-foot rule was “probably the single costliest recommendation that [the] CDC made,” said Gottlieb, noting “the whole thing feels arbitrary and not science based,” which he said lowers public confidence.

Gottlieb criticized the CDC for waiting until this past March to cut the social-distancing requirement from six feet to three, because one study cited by the agency was finished collecting data in Fall 2020. “If they had that study in the fall, why didn’t they change the advice in the fall?”

“So the single reason why most schools remained shut was because the CDC was telling them they had to keep kids six feet apart,” he said. “If…if CDC has said you can only…you have to keep kids three feet apart, then a lot of schools would have been able [to] open.”

He noted that when the Biden administration finally got permission from the teacher’s unions to open schools this past spring, they got the CDC to lower the guidance from six feet to three.

Gottlieb said those decisions helped undermine public confidence in the CDC and other public health officials.

“This is how the whole thing feels arbitrary and not science based. So we talk about a very careful, science-based process and these anecdotes get exposed, and that’s where Americans start to lose confidence in how the decisions got made,” he added.

This editorial is brought to you by a former Chief of Police and current staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.

ATLANTA, GA- If you’ve been paying attention to far-left media for the past ten months, we have been subjected to a running total on the screen of the number of COVID-19 cases, deaths, etc. prominently displayed in order to remind the American people that all of it was TRUMP’S FAULT.

This was clearly intended to keep in front of the American people the death total from the pandemic. Networks such as CNN and MSNBC insisted the total was there for “informational purposes” and wasn’t politically driven. If that’s the case, why has this suddenly disappeared?

Before January 20, 2021, the chyron displayed the number of cases, death rate, total deaths, and so on, in this case on CNN, the Cartoon News Network. But then, a miracle happened. After Biden was sworn in, the death tracker all of a sudden disappeared, with limited exceptions.

A true miracle.

Merely by being sworn in, Biden apparently cured COVID, as reported by TownHall.

That fact did not go unnoticed. Caleb Hull tweeted that he had gone through CNN broadcasts going back to December 15, and the chyron continuously displayed the death count, with only a small number or exceptions.

In fact, in another tweet, Hull posted a snapshot of screenshots from CNN showing the death count prominently displayed at various dates and times.

A subsequent tweet showed a before and after…one before while President Trump was still in office and one after Biden was sworn in. Miraculous! Just by being sworn in, Biden appears to have cured a worldwide pandemic!

This was not lost on the Washington Free Beacon, which decided to pick up the slack for CNN, tweeting the new Biden death count:

“4,409 Americans have died from COVID-19 since President Joe Biden took office,” the latest update from last Thursday at 9 a.m. read.

Hull made the point that out of an abundance of fairness, Biden get the same “credit” for COVID-19 deaths as President Trump did.

“It’s official: Joe Biden is now directly responsible for every COVID death. These are the rules.”

The total was updated on Jan. 22…now 8,298 Americans have died from COVID-19 since Biden took office…the number DOUBLED in only two days!

Likewise, Biden’s executive order mandating mask wearing on federal property also appeared to have worked wonders, since mere hours later, Biden and his family appeared at the Lincoln Memorial, which last we looked was on federal property, not wearing masks. Of course as we have seen repeatedly over the course of the pandemic, rules only apply to the little people…and Republicans.

The fact the Bidens were not wearing masks at the Lincoln Memorial wasn’t lost on some in the media, with Fox News’ Peter Doocy asking the White House press secretary about it at a press briefing, who promptly dismissed the question.

“He was celebrating a historic day,” said Jen Psaki. “I think we have bigger issues to worry about at this moment in time.”

Yeah important. Like putting 50,000 people out of work on the Keystone XL pipeline. Like ensuring men can compete in women’s sports. Like rejoining a climate agreement which will cost even more American jobs…and lots of money. You know, “bigger issues to worry about.”

Call us crazy but it seems that COVID-19 was a pretty big deal to Biden and company over the course of the election. Now all of a sudden there are “bigger issues” we need to be concerned about.

But hey c’mon man…I thought it was our “patriotic” duty to wear masks? To quote Biden:

“Wearing masks isn’t a partisan issue. It’s a patriotic act that can save countless lives.”

Biden’s transgression (?) at the Lincoln Memorial came after his inaugural address, where he said that his administration would “lead not merely by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.”

So, just like Democrats have excepted themselves from their own mandates, from Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot getting her hair done after ordering citizens to remain at home, to California Gov. Gavin Newsom going to a fancy restaurant only to do the same, so too does Biden get an exemption from the “patriotic act” of wearing a mask because it was “a historic day.”

Figured it out yet? Democrats blamed every American death over the course of ten months on President Trump and now that he is no longer in office, COVID deaths are no longer the fault of the president because it’s THEIR president.

Democrats kept businesses shuttered for month, putting hundreds of thousands if not millions on the unemployment lines, and now, even as COVID deaths spike, suddenly they say restaurants can reopen for inside dining.

From CNN and their death count to Biden subverting his own executive orders, Democrats and their media handlers have been playing the American people for nearly one year. And now they have the keys to the whole shooting match.

And half the country is fine with that.

Law Enforcement Today reported on the hypocrisy of political leaders who busted their own executive or emergency COVID-19 orders. For more on that, we invite you to:

DIG DEEPER

CALIFORNIA- Several democratic leaders have ordered strict lockdowns over the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing businesses to close and ordering families not to gather during the holidays.

People might be able to stomach those restrictions better if those who are making the rules abided by them as well. Sadly, that is not the case for many democratic leaders.

One of those leaders busted violating his own restrictions is none other than Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom. Newsom has been calling on indoor dining, among other things, to be shut down, supposedly over fear of the spread of the virus.

However, in November he attended a birthday party for a friend, Jason Kinney, at a very prestigious restaurant called the French Laundry. Someone at the event felt this was inappropriate and took a photograph of Newsom with his family and friends who were all sitting at a large table enjoying dinner.

After he was busted, Newsom said:

“While our family followed the restaurant’s health protocols and took safety precautions, we should have modeled better behavior and not joined the dinner.”

Another democratic political leader caught violating restrictions she laid down for her city, was none other than San Francisco Mayor London Breed. Breed ordered businesses and restaurants to close over supposed fears of spreading the virus.

Yet Breed was also spotted dining at the French Laundry on November 7th, the day after Newsom was there. Breed was there to celebrate the birthday of Gorretti Lo Lui with a number of other people.

While the utter hypocrisy seems to be lost on the democratic political leaders, it was not lost on Melinda Jackson, a political science professor at San Jose State University.

She said:

“We’re all really feeling the strain of this, but there is really that element of hypocrisy. So many who are struggling right now, and then you see them going to these very fancy social affairs and messing with folks outside their immediate bubble.”

While one would think that this bad behavior would encourage others not to follow, that is not the case, at least not for the Los Angeles Supervisor of Elections, Sheila Kuehl. A few weeks back, Kuehl attended a vote in which she pushed for the banning of outdoor dining.

Kuehl stated that she felt that outdoor dining increased the risk of the wait staff obtaining the virus. However, right after voting to ban outdoor dining, Kuehl was seen eating at an Italian restaurant, outdoors.

We now come to Democratic Rhode Island Governor Gina Ralmondo, who ordered residents to stay home unless travel was essential. Yet, four days after telling her residents to stay home, she was captured in a photograph at a wine bar – without a face mask.

https://twitter.com/cuban_manny/status/1339736719902556160

While some could say that there might have been an “essential” meeting that took place while at the wine bar, that does not appear to be the case. According to the person who took the photograph, Erica Oliveras, Ralmondo and her husband were attending a “wine and paint” event.

Next up is Democratic Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. Bowser closed down businesses and churches over fears of the pandemic spreading. She also ordered all residents to stay home and not travel unless it was “essential.”

Yet, when it came to taking her own advice and orders, she decided it was necessary to travel to Delaware to attend an election celebration for Democratic President-Elect Joe Biden. When her office was asked why she elected to take the trip to essentially attend a party, her office stated that the trip was “essential business.”

One of the best violators, humor wise, is current Democratic Austin Mayor Steve Adler. Adler had come out on Twitter telling citizens that they need to stay home and not travel for the holidays. While this may seem like a normal thing for democratic leaders, what made it humorous was that he made the post…while in Cabo

Adler later admitted that he filmed the lockdown video while in another country for his daughter’s wedding. He later apologized for not following his own restrictions.

The next highlighted democratic leader that fails to abide by her own orders and recommendations is current Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Pelosi called for shutdowns over the pandemic, yet was caught on camera going to a salon to get her hair done. When called out on the hypocrisy of her actions, instead of admitting her mistake, she instead insisted that the salon owner set her up.

LA County Supervisor Kuehl seen dining outdoors hours after voting to ban outdoor dining

December 1, 2020

SANTA MONICA, CA – L.A. County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl reportedly dined at an outdoor restaurant in Santa Monica, hours after casting a decisive vote to ban outdoor dining in the county. The ban was due to a coronavirus spike that the county and state are reportedly experiencing.

Bill Melugin of local Fox affiliate KTTV-11 reported Monday:

During Tuesday’s L.A. County Board of Supervisors meeting, Kuehl referred to outside dining as “a most dangerous situation” over what she described as a risk of tables of unmasked patrons potentially exposing their servers to the coronavirus.

Kuehl argued at the meeting:

“This is a serious health emergency and we must take it seriously. The servers are not protected from us, and they’re not protected from their other tables that they’re serving at that particular time, plus all the hours in which they’re working.”

Kuehl voted to support restricting outdoor dining in Los Angeles County, which the Board of Supervisors passed by a 3-2 margin.

Apparently, Supervisor Kuehl’s outrage and concern did not apply to herself, or to the owners and servers at one of her favorite eateries. Just hours after voting for the outdoor dining ban, she made her way to Il Forno Trattoria, an Italian restaurant near her house in Santa Monica. There, she was seen dining outdoors, putting all those servers in a “dangerous situation” by waiting on her.

Managers at the restaurant told Fox 11’s Bill Melugin that they “didn’t want to get involved,” and a spokesperson for Kuehl provided the following statement:

“She did dine alfresco at Il Forno on the very last day it was permissible. She loves Il Forno and has been saddened to see that, like so many restaurants, suffer from a decline in revenue. She ate there, taking appropriate precautions, and sadly will not dine there again until our public health orders permit.”

Kuehl’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Social media users were quick to criticize Kuehl’s “outrageous” behavior, with some even calling for her resignation.

One Twitter user wrote:

As a restaurant employee who has been affected by her vote, this is infuriating…There needs to be accountability from the voters on this!!!”

Another said if Kuehl believed dining outdoors was dangerous, she should not have been dining out herself.

A third user wrote in frustration:

“Our CA political ‘leaders’ have shown nothing but hypocrisy & utter contempt for their constituents time and time again.”

However, several others did point out that Kuehl’s meal out did not break any rules because it was before the ban came into effect.

Fellow Supervisor Janice Hahn, who voted against the outdoor dining ban, told KTTV’s Elex Michaelson that the danger of public officials doing what they have told constituents not to do is resulting in the public “beginning to lose the trust of the public.”

Hahn said there was not sufficient scientific evidence to support the ban on outdoor dining, given the economic cost before the holidays.

Los Angeles County shut down outdoor dining for three weeks, effective Nov. 25. The order was issued before Thanksgiving amid a rising number of cases and hospitalizations. It is expected to remain in place for at least three weeks.

Some health officials admitted that there is no specific scientific evidence to back up claims of a direct link between outdoor dining and the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.

L.A. County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said that the “best information we have that’s very specific to restaurants” was a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study that targeted 11 different outpatient health care facilities in 10 states. The study found that patients with coronavirus were twice as likely to have dined out at a restaurant.

The study did not provide specific data distinguishing between infection rates among outdoor versus indoor dining, the report said. It was also conducted on a larger scale, rather than specifically to the Los Angeles County community.

Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger claims the ban is an overreach by the government. Barger, who favored overturning the decision, has said that data from the Department of Public Health showed only 10% to 15% of positive cases reported had come from dining out with someone who tested positive, while more than 50% reported being at a private social gathering with someone who tested positive.

Barger said:

“For [Dr. Davis] to say that they’re depending on the CDC when we’ve been doing this for seven months and, in fact, have been doing inspections that we don’t have data, and yet we are targeting one industry and saying with the number of cases rising we are going to set [restaurants] down to me is irresponsible.”

She went on to explain:

“It’s frustrating to me that we are doing something that has no correlation to the surge, none. We know what it is. It is public gatherings. And by closing restaurants, many of these people that have reservations are going to go where? Gatherings with other families because many of them didn’t have any plans. So, I think it’s going to have the complete opposite effect.”

On Friday, L.A. County – the U.S.’s most populous – announced a new stay-at-home measure, banning most gatherings but stopping short of a full lockdown.

As of early Tuesday, at least 381,535 total confirmed coronavirus cases and 7,249 deaths have been reported, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom on Monday said a “drastic” new lockdown order might be necessary if coronavirus cases continue to surge.
