PORTLAND, OR – Portland law enforcement were able to push back far-left activists on Saturday, August 1. The far-left activists were headed toward the police station in the Portland suburb, as reported by the Daily Wire News.

The protesters started to gather at around 8:50pm on Saturday, August 1. They gathered at the Mark O. Hatfield U. S. Federal Courthouse for several hours making speeches.

The crowd then began to separate marching in different directions; one portion ending up at the Penumbra Kelly Building where the unlawful assembly started.

Portland Police tweeted:

“Portland Police have directed people to stay off the property at the Penumbra Kelly Building property. Anyone who enters the property may be subject to force or arrest.

People in this unlawful assembly have thrown glass bottles at Portland Police and directed lasers at them. Anyone who does not disperse may be subject to force or arrest.”

Andy Ngo, a journalist, tweeted:

“Antifa gathered in a residential area of Portland to attack a Portland Police building. They’ve been pushed far back. Antifa are trashing a southeast Portland residential neighborhood in an effort to slow down Portland Police who are moving them away from the facility they were attacking with glass bottles.”

The building 200 Antifa members gathered at is part of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

Portland Police stated that the individuals throwing objects at the police were wearing outer garments with the word “press” on them.

Portland Police released a statement regarding the incident:

“…a group of about two hundred marched from Laurelhurst Park, blocking traffic lanes, to the Penumbra Kelly Building, 4735 East Burnside Street.

The group stood blocking East Burnside Street, shined bright lights at Portland Police officers standing outside the building, directed lasers at the officers and eventually began throwing glass bottles at them. Vehicles blocked East Burnside Street from Northeast 47th Avenue to Northeast 50th Avenue…”

Portland Police declared the protest on August 1st as unlawful, and directed people to disperse. The police declared it unlawful because protesters were throwing glass bottles at the officers.

One officer even had a bottle filled with paint thrown at his head. He was struck in the head by the bottle, but no injury reported.

Police attempted to make announcements to the crowd to move away from the Penumbra Kelly Building prior to declaring the protests as unlawful.

Portland Police continued to push the crowd west and south away from the building. An individual even moved their car slowly out to block the police near East Burnside and Southeast 44th Avenue. This was an attempt to keep the police from safely moving people out of the road.

Portland Police deflated the tires to the vehicle and continued on their path to Southeast 41st Avenue and Southeast Pine Street. There they disengaged and returned to the Penumbra Kelly Building.

Portland Police made two arrests during this dispersal. Max Van Briesen, 31, a resident of Portland, was arrested for Assaulting a Public Safety Officer, interfering with a Police Officer, and disorderly conduct in the second degree. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Additionally, Freedom Moreno, 34, a resident of Portland, was arrested for interfering with a Police Officer, disorderly conduct in the second degree, resisting arrest, and harassment.

There was no use of CS gas on Saturday. Many individuals from the crowd blocked city streets while marching. Portland Police met them at Southeast 50th near East Burnside and directed them south down to Southeast Belmont Street.

Portland Police again disengaged from the protesters at Southeast Belmont Street and Southeast 48th Avenue. The crowd did not return to the Penumbra Kelly Building.

In downtown Portland, shortly after midnight, a large portion of the crowd gathered outside the federal courthouse again, and started to march through downtown Portland and their Pearl District.

The march was two hours, and shrunk to about 100 people when it stopped at Southwest 3rd Avenue. After about an hour, the crowd drifted into the city.

Editorial: Biden’s 2020 plans for America would destroy the suburbs as cities implode in violence

This editorial is brought to you by a former Chief of Police and staff writer for Law Enforcement Today.

Like what’s going on in Seattle? New York? Chicago? If not, hold onto your hats because if Joe Biden gets elected November 3, the chaos that is currently tearing apart our largest cities could be heading to a suburb near you.

How? The Democrat Party platform, which will be unveiled at their national convention, is looking to allow urban creep to fully transform suburbs by forcing low-income housing into every neighborhood.

How? Federal funding.

A large number of federal dollars go into virtually every community in the United states. By holding federal funding over the heads of cities and towns, the federal government seeks to change zoning laws throughout the country in order to mandate low income housing be transferred from urban to suburban areas.

These rules, originally proposed by Barack Obama, are called the “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing” rules.

Under the “executive orders” section of the Democratic platform, Biden would “Implement the Obama-Biden Administration’s Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule (AFFH) requiring communities receiving certain federal funding to proactively examine housing patterns and identify and address policies that have discriminatory protections.”

Specifically, Democrats seek to increase the supply of affordable housing and address “long-standing economic and racial inequities in our housing markets.”

The Democrats say:

“We will equalize access to affordable credit and improve access to down payment assistance to help families of color, low-income families, and rural buyers purchase homes.”

In addition, the Democrats say they will “expand the number of affordable housing units on the market, reduce home prices and create jobs. We commit to providing Section 8 housing support for every eligible family. We will make energy efficiency upgrades for millions of low-income households in metropolitan and rural areas, affordable housing units, and public housing units to save families money on their energy bills, create jobs, and provide safe and healthy homes.”

What does that exactly mean? In a nutshell, it means that the rules would require EVERY single American city or town to add section 8 and so-called “low income housing” in every community.

As Breitbart News noted, Fox News’ Tucker Carlson probably explained it best:

“…make the rest of America very much like our biggest cities have become squalid, dangerous, chaotic and unhappy. They’d like to do to your neighborhood what they have done to New York City. The main think they’ve done to New York is make it scary. Violent crime is surging dramatically there, as we have told you night after night. One of the main reasons for that is the elimination of cash bail—the city no longer holds the people at arrests.

Carlson continued:

“Democrats want to abolish the suburbs. They are too clean and nice, and therefore by definition, they are racist. The Biden campaign has highly specific plans on how to do this. It’s called affirmatively furthering fair housing. It’s a HUD regulation, it was written during the Obama administration. Biden’s advisors plan to enforce it.

“They will cut off federal funds for municipalities unless those municipalities submit to federal control of urban planning. Towns will be ordered to abolish zoning for single-family housing because single-family homes, needless to say, are racist. Low-income federally subsidized apartments will go up in the suburbs.

It’s a good bet you won’t see  any of this. You won’t see projects being build in Aspen or Martha’s Vineyard or anywhere else Eric Holder vacations, but in your neighborhood? Oh, yeah.”

LET Unity

What this would accomplish is take community planning out of the hands of local governments and transfer it to the federal government, which would then direct every facet of our lives…womb to the tomb if you will. Those who work hard to achieve the ability to live in safe, comfortable suburbs will have that choice removed.

National Review took the Democrats radical plan to transform the suburbs further. Biden in fact would expand on Obama’s AFFH regulation and would adopt a plan put forth by Sen. Cory Booker, which would create “little downtowns” in the suburbs by gutting single-family zoning in the suburbs. This would remove local control and remove the ability for individual towns and cities to govern themselves.

As Stanley Kurtz says in the National Review piece, anti-suburban radicals have long wanted to abolish the suburbs and have them absorbed into big cities. Finding out that it would not be possible to simply do that through a process of annexation, there is an alternate strategy that would accomplish the same thing.

First, residents of cities would be pushed into the suburbs through a type of quota system of “economic integration” into the suburbs.

Secondly, restrict development, restrict auto use, and limit highway growth to force suburban residents back into the city.

And finally, use state and federal laws to force suburbs to redistribute tax revenue to poorer cities in their greater metropolitan region. An example of this can be found in Connecticut where the state used taxpayer money to bail out Hartford, which was on the verge of bankruptcy, thereby forcing state residents to subsidize Hartford’s incompetence in handling its spending.

Once towns and cities lose control of their own zoning and development, it’s only a matter of time before they have to enter into more of a regional agreement, and will be forced to build high-density, low-income housing.

That of course would require the elimination of zoning restricting building to single family homes. As Americans have seen the disadvantages of dense living in the cities relative to the coronavirus, as well as the fact that big city mayors have lost control of their cities, the desire to move into more suburban or rural locales has increased. However, if Biden gets his way, that choice will be removed.

Breitbart News reports the plan, known as the Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force Recommendations would also “provide instant amnesty and a pathway to U.S. citizenship for 22 million illegal aliens now living in the nation, as well as giving legal status to all the world’s refugees regardless of the legitimacy of their claims to the status.”

This is how Biden is hoping to keep the so-called “Bernie bros” happy. Collaborating with Sanders on the Democratic party platform for the election. This is clearly a hard move to the left by Biden, who likely will not be president for all that long, given the fact that he is clearly losing his faculties.

Take both the AFFH and the amnesty program and pathway to citizenship for 22 million illegal aliens together, the suburbs are a perfect place in which to place these new “citizens.”

Suburban residents should pay close attention to this part of Biden and the Democrats’ platform. Taking away the choice to escape high crime and high taxes by moving to the suburbs may be a thing of the past if Biden somehow beats Trump.
