MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL – A family in Florida is still reeling from the loss of a 24-year-old mother who was fatally shot while in front of her three-year-old daughter on May 3rd while outside of their home. The young girl was also reportedly grazed by a bullet during the shooting.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on May 3rd, 24-year-old Le’Shonte Jones was reportedl gunned down while outside of her home located at the Coral Bay Cove Apartments on Southwest 258th Street and South Dixie Highway.

Authorities say that the fatal shooting of Jones took place right in front of her 3-year-old daughter, who was also grazed by the gunfire during the incident. Jones had reportedly just gotten home from work on the day she was killed, according to her mother Darlene Dukes:

“She was still in her work uniform and they took her from me.”

Dukes is still trying to come to terms with how to explain to her granddaughter that her mother is no longer here:

“I haven’t even told her, her mom is gone. Like, how can you explain that to a 3-year-old child?”

Dukes, clearly heartbroken from losing her daughter, laments no longer being able to enjoy the joys of life with her daughter:

“I’ll never be able to kiss my baby, I’ll never be able to hear my baby laugh, play with her nieces and nephews, that’s taken, it’s gone.”

Authorities have released an image of the suspect wanted in the murder, but there’s no word on whether a person of interest has been identified by authorities.

Jones’ mother is hoping that the suspect turns himself into authorities, or that someone with knowledge of the murder comes forward to police:

“How could you do a 3-year-old child like that? He needs to turn himself in, or somebody to say something, somebody to talk…my daughter didn’t trouble nobody.”

Miami-Dade Police Detective Richard Raphael stated the following about the investigation:

“The suspect vehicle as being a dark grey, 4-door, Nissan vehicle. Additionally, we also learned the suspect is a black male wearing dark clothing that approached the victim as she was about to enter her residence.”

“We are working constantly: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If anyone has information regarding this case, I urge you to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers in an effort to bring closure to the grieving family.”

“In my 15 years in homicide, I’ve handled countless deaths involving minor children. I’m very disgusted as to the nature of violence that is happening to the children in our community.”

“And I’d like to offer the coward that did this that we are coming for you, because you will be going to jail.”

Back in April, we at Law Enforcement Today shared another saddening report regarding a young boy that was gunned down while he was standing outside of a home where a birthday party was ongoing – also occurring in the Miami-Dade area.

Here’s that previous report.

MIAMI-DADE, FL – Authorities in Florida are seeking tips with regard to the fatal shooting of a three-year-old boy that occurred at a birthday party in the Miami-Dade area on April 24th.

Miami-Dade Police had responded to a residence located in the area of North Miami Ave and NE 158th St on the evening of April 24th at approximately 8:00 p.m. in response to a shots fired call.

Upon arrival at the residence, two victims were found to have been injured, one being an adult female and the other being three-year-old Elijiah LaFrance.

Both of the victims were rushed to area hospitals, where the adult woman was last reported as being in stable condition and Elijah had sadly passed away from his sustained injuries.

Both the toddler and the woman happened to have been attending a child’s birthday party at the time that they were both shot.

The suspect or suspects involved in the shooting immediately fled the scene, and authorities currently do not have any suspects or persons of interest on their radar.

Miami-Dade Police Detective Kevin Thelwell stated the following about the investigation into the murder of this child:

“While doing the canvassing and processing of the scene, there was over 60 [shell] casings. This was despicable. This was careless. These were shooters…these were cowards – to take the life of a 3-year-old child.

“This was supposed to be a peaceful gathering. It wasn’t anything that was broadcast on social media, it was just close family members and friends. We do not know who these subjects are, we’re asking for the community’s help.

“I have two sons of my own – I can’t imagine what the parents are going through at this time. It’s total devastation, and we’re asking the community for help. I don’t care if you heard something on the street…I need somebody to call crime stoppers.”

Elijah’s uncle, Adrian Annestor, spoke to a local news outlet regarding the murder of his nephew.

With tears welling in his eyes and having difficulty being able to muster the words to describe the pain he’s going through, Annestor broke down when detailing the murder of his nephew:

“They killed him…God, he’s still on my mind. He was right there…I was playing with him.

“I wish it could’ve been me – because I’ve lived long enough. He can’t even say…mom…dad.”

Tips leading to an arrest in this case are eligible for a reward of up to $15,000. Tipsters with information related to this incident are urged to contact Detective Kevin Thelwell at 305-471-2400, but those choosing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
