CROSBY, Texas – A Harris County deputy shot and killed a knife-wielding, 17-year-old boy in a subdivision near Crosby Tuesday morning, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.

It happened in the 600 block of Sea Anchor in the Newport subdivision around 9 a.m.

The HCSO said deputies were called to a home there about a domestic disturbance. Apparently, the teen had gotten into some kind of fight with a family member, but when deputies showed up, he ran inside and locked himself in a bedroom.

But then, the HCSO said the teen came out and tried to attack one of the deputies with a butcher knife.

The deputy opened fire, striking the teen several times.

He died at the scene.

Neighbors said the boy had a history of mental problems. Deputies have reportedly responded to multiple domestic disturbance calls at the home.

The identity of the teen was not released.
