INDIANAPOLIS – An accidental discharge occurred at the funeral service of Lt. Aaron Allan. As a result of the misfire, a deputy was struck and injured by the round.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department dispatch said the person struck by the bullet works for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Consequently, she was grazed by the round on her right leg, reported rtv6.

The accidental discharge occurred in the main seating area toward the end of the funeral inside Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Subsequently, an ambulance took the woman to Eskenazi Hospital. Moreover, IMPD said the injury did not appear to be serious.

Sgt. Kendale Adams said Sunday a female Marion County sheriff’s deputy was hit in the leg and has been released from a hospital. However, her name remained confidential.

Adams says a preliminary investigation indicates the shot came from an IMPD officer’s firearm. Furthermore, the sergeant confirmed the weapon never left its holster and “may have been some type of equipment malfunction.” Finally, he says it’s being treated as an accident, reported the Daily Mail.
