Department of Homeland Security Monitoring Social Media Outlets
The Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) is suing the Department of Homeland Security alleging that the agency has established fake Twitter, Facebook and other social media accounts for the sole purpose of monitoring them for terror activities.
EPIC is seeking records from DHS to confirm their allegations. According to the EPIC website, they accuse the agency of searching for various words such as hostage, meth lab, dirty bomb or nuclear threat on social media contacts.
What do LET members say? How comfortable are you with federal law enforcement monitoring your Tweets and Facebook posts? Are you concerned about Big Brother watching you? Is DHS monitoring LET’s fan page? Any commenter could use those search words in a Facebook post without intending terror. Or do you support DHS’s efforts to protect the Homeland? Post your opinion!
