Desperate Democrats introduce bill to limit Supreme Court Justice terms to 18 years

WASHINGTON D.C.– Since the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Democrats and Republicans have been at odds about President Trump having the right to nominate someone to fill the seat, before the November election.

Democrats have been all but throwing actual temper tantrums in an effort to stop Trumps nomination.

On Thursday, September 24th, Democrat Representative Ro Khanna (R-CA), introduced the Supreme Court Term Limits and Regular Appointments Act. This act aims to “fundamentally reframe the power” of the U.S. Supreme Court by limiting the terms of those appointed to 18 years.

Khanna said that he proposed this because Democrats seek a:

“regular, fair process that doesn’t reshape the court for decades at a time.”

As Khanna announced that the Original House sponsors of the bill include Virginia Rep. Don Beyer (D) and Massachusetts Rep. Joe Kennedy III (D), he said:

“We can’t face a national crisis every time a vacancy occurs on the Supreme Court,”

Khanna added:

“No justice should feel the weight of an entire country on their shoulders. No president should be able to shift the ideology of our highest judicial body by mere chance.

Most importantly, our country’s top constitutional questions shouldn’t be decided by a panel of jurists who are biding their time until a president of their choice is elected. It’s time to standardize and democratize the Supreme Court.”

If past, the 18 year cap would not apply to sitting justices, as they would be allowed to carry out their life terms.

According to Reuters, which has looked over the bill, the legislation:

“would allow every president to nominate two justices per four-year term.”

President Trump is scheduled to announce his nominee for the Supreme Court vacancy on Saturday, September 26th from the White House at 5:00 p.m. ET.

Here is more on the back and forth taking place regarding the Supreme Court Vacancy.

WASHINGTON, DC- President Trump could nominate Mother Theresa to the Supreme Court (if she were she alive) and the Democrats would still find something to assassinate her character about.

That is why conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh might be onto something. On Monday, Limbaugh suggested Republicans bypass holding hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee and go directly to a floor vote on the president’s nominee for the nation’s highest court.

“The 2016 election is what this nomination is about. Not the 2020 election, both in terms of timeline, legalities, and common sense, the 2020 election has nothing to do with this Supreme Court opening,” Limbaugh said, arguing against arguments coming from Democrats who complain that the president should hold off on a nominee until after the 2020 election, constitution be damned.

Limbaugh said that hearings before the Judiciary Committee would amount to nothing less than an orchestrated left-wing hit job on the nominee, no matter who it is.

“I want the Judiciary Committee—I think it’d be great if it were skipped,” Limbaugh said.

“We don’t need to open that up for whatever length of time so that whoever this nominee is can be Kavanaughed or Borked or Thomased. Because that’s what it’s gonna be, especially when it’s not even required.”

Limbaugh of course was referring to the circuses surrounding the nominations of Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Clarence Thomas, as well as Judge Robert Bork, who had been nominated to the Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan.

Bork’s nomination was rejected by the Senate along partisan lines, not based on qualifications but because of judicial philosophy.

During Bork’s confirmation hearing, he was subjected to unmitigated attacks from the likes of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy, who famously left an intern to drown in the back of his car that plunged into the water on Martha’s Vineyard.

Justice Thomas meanwhile was subject to sexual harassment allegations from a woman named Anita Hill, while Kavanaugh was also run through the ringer under unfounded allegations of alleged sexual assault over thirty years ago.

In addition, when Justice Samuel Alito was going through the process, Democrats treated him so badly that his wife actually left the Senate chamber in tears.

Contrast that with confirmation hearings for Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, both nominated to the high court by Obama. Neither was subjected to the type of vile smear job that Democrats laid on nominees from Republican presidents.

As a matter of fact, Democrats, who don’t even know who Trump’s pick will be, have already started smearing the women who have been identified as on the president’s “short list” for the post.

The Daily Wire said Limbaugh argued that any such hearings could damage Republicans on the Judiciary Committee, who should be “out campaigning, not deflecting ‘leftist attempts to distort the nominee’s junior high school yearbook.’”

“In addition, there are people on the Judiciary Committee who need to be out campaigning in October, not trying to deflect leftist attempts to distort the nominee’s junior high school yearbook,” he said.

“And when the vote count is assured, Mitch McConnell needs to take it straight to the floor of the Senate and have the vote.”

“When the vote count is assured, go straight to the floor for a vote,” Limbaugh opined.

“You know why? That protects senators from being all-out attacked by the Democrat mobs. It stops a whole bunch of that. We don’t want to give Kamala Harris the opportunity to grandstand in that committee as a vice presidential running mate of Plugs [Biden].”

Limbaugh singled out the treatment of Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of attempted rape by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, at a house party thirty years ago. She never mentioned the incident to anyone until Kavanaugh was nominated to the Supreme Court. She had asked to remain anonymous but was revealed by Democrats, who saw an opportunity to destroy Kavanaugh, and thus Trump.

During the hearings before the Judiciary Committee, she couldn’t remember where, or when the supposed rape took place, and there was no corroboration to her story. Kavanaugh was vindicated and eventually confirmed to the court along partisan lines.

“All bets should be off as far as what senators have said and the ones who say they’re not gonna vote,” one caller said to Limbaugh. “After what they put us through with Kavanaugh, this whole country through, it’s a disgrace for those who are not gonna vote.”

“I think that’s exactly—folks, after what the Democrats put this country through, there is no way they should be offered any semblance of deference,” Limbaugh said.

“I’m not saying that this whole thing doesn’t need to happen fairly or with fairness, but we don’t need to defer to these people’s wishes or demands. They attempted to destroy not just a nomination, they tried to destroy the nominee’s life, his character, his future, his family.”

“They spared nothing as they attempted with a series of lies stacked on other lies, they attempted to literally destroy Brett Kavanaugh. There is no way they are owed any deference whatsoever,” Limbaugh said referring to Democrats.

Limbaugh also noted that Democrats have threatened to “burn down the country,” and noted that they did not “deserve to be anywhere near the levers of power as currently constituted.”

He continued:

“Democrats say that if the Republicans follow the Constitution they’re gonna burn down the country. I’ve got the tweets. The Democrats are tweeting they’re gonna burn it all down. They are not going to save anything.

“Now obviously we have to allow for some fevered emotional overreaction here. But they’re already demonstrating that they are more than capable of burning down businesses and other people’s property. So it’s not an idle threat. The Democrat Party is a destructive, hateful, selfish political party, and they do not deserve to be anywhere near the levers of power as currently constituted.”

Democrats have been in full meltdown mode since Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died last week from pancreatic cancer.

According to The Hill, they claim that Ginsburg’s replacement should wait until after the November election, claiming that Republicans had refused to consider Obama’s nomination to replace Justice Antonin Scalia who died in February, 2016.

The difference of course was that in 2016, Republicans held the Senate while Obama, a Democrat was the president. Under those circumstances, the Republicans did exactly what the Democrats would have done if the roles were reversed. They deferred until after the November 2016 election.

This year, Republicans have the presidency and the Senate. If Democrats were in that position, they would have done exactly what Republicans are doing now. For them to say otherwise is a lie.

As currently comprised, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he has the votes to push the president’s nomination through, despite two Republican senators, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska saying they would not support Trump’s nominee. This is hardly surprising since Murkowski voted against Kavanaugh’s nomination and Collins hedged until the last minute.

So for all the caterwauling by Democrats, they’re hypocrites. They would be doing exactly what the Republicans are doing.

As to Limbaugh’s suggestion to skip the hearings, it sounds like a good idea to us.
