Fact Check: Democrats’ and celebrities’ mailbox removal conspiracy theory debunked

WASHINGTON, DC – For the past few days, Democrats and celebrities alike are calling President Trump a dictator who is conspiring to remove mailboxes throughout the U.S. to ensure that people cannot vote by mail.

What they fail to acknowledge is that mailboxes are routinely removed every year depending upon the amount of mail a specific mailbox collects.

The new narrative coming from the mainstream media, Democrats, and social elites is that President Trump is yet again trying to steal an election.

Of course, they still maintain the Russian hoax that was proven a lie and still believe that he stole the 2016 election. Now they are working overtime so that just in case he wins in November, they have a ready-made new scheme with which to impeach him again.

Their claim is that President Trump is ordering mailboxes removed so that their votes will not be counted in the upcoming election. Pictures have dominated social media showing mailboxes being removed.

Instead of explaining why, they use that as supposed evidence of wrongdoing.

Several states and Democrat leaders are demanding congressional hearings over the matter. House Judiciary Committee Democrats Hakeem Jeffries and Ted Lieu co-authored a letter to the FBI demanding a federal investigation into the matter. In their letter, they write:

“The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security has oversight over the federal criminal code and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

As Members of the Committee, we request the FBI to look into whether Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, or Members of the Board of Governors of the U.S. Postal Service, committed any crimes.

“Multiple media investigations show that Postmaster DeJoy and the Board of Governors have retarded the passage of mail. If their intent in doing so was to affect mail-in balloting or was motivated by personal financial reasons, then they likely committed crimes.”

The pair cite two statutes which would be applicable if a crime were committed, then say:

“There is overwhelming evidence that Postmaster General DeJoy and the Board of Governors have hindered the passage of mail.

At least 19 mail sorting machines, which can process 35,000 pieces of mail per hour, have been dismantled and over 671 are slated for reductions later this year.

“Postmaster DeJoy and the Board of Governors have also instituted ‘sweeping organizational and policy’ changes that ‘have already delayed mail delivery by as much as a week in some places.’

As a result, the U.S Postal Service warned 46 states that voters could be disenfranchised by delayed mail-in ballots.

“If Postmaster General DeJoy and/or the Board of Governors took these actions ‘for the purpose of interfering with, or affecting, the nomination or the election of any candidate’ then they violated both 18 U.S.C. §595 and 18 U.S.C. § 1701.

Indeed, there is evidence that making mail-in balloting more difficult may be one of the motivations for the changes instituted at the Post Office.

“For several years, the President has repeatedly attacked the legitimacy of mail-in voting. Recently, he stated ‘if we don’t make a deal, that means they don’t get the money’ and ‘that means they can’t have universal mail-in voting; they just can’t have it.’

The Chairman of the Board of Governors and multiple other members were appointed by Donald Trump….It is not unreasonable to conclude that Postmaster General DeJoy and the Board of Governors may be executing Donald Trump’s desire to affect mail-in balloting.”

What this letter fails to recognize is that the U.S. Post Office has consistently lost billions of dollars a year with how it was being operated.

Former President Barack Obama even weighed in on this while he was in office when he considered closing 3,700 locations and cutting 12,000 jobs. Under his administration, at least 14,000 mailboxes were removed in 2016 alone due to a lack of use.

President Trump has advocated for a more fiscally responsible approach at running the Postal Service, which is why he made a change in the Postmaster General’s position and put a proven businessperson in charge.

Of course, Democrats contend this move was only made because DeJoy has contributed to President Trump’s campaign.

A spokeswoman for the Postal Service, Kimberly Frum, told the Hill that mailboxes that do not receive many letters are moved to areas that need them to control costs. The associated costs would be the salary and gas it takes for a postal worker to travel to that location for little to no mail every day when it could be saved only for those locations that need it.

Another item of note, President Trump and his administration offered the Postal Service $10 billion in funds to help bring it out of the financial hole it has been digging. However, Democrat leaders decry that is not enough money and demand $25 billion.

The sad truth of it all is that there is overwhelming evidence that there is zero truth to the latest conspiracy theory being pushed by Democrat leaders and the social elite. However, the mainstream media continues pushing this lie with the hopes that people do not dare to look into the matters for themselves, thus, convincing them to vote for Biden.
